Winter's Charm circa 1910

Winter's Charm circa 1910
Robert Demachy (France 1859–1938)
Another vintage photograph to please you. There are no people or structures in this image but you can tell it's old just by looking at it. Why is that?

Black and White Kitchen Love

I wouldn't change a thing in this beautiful kitchen. You know how much I love a black and white checkerboard floor having had one myself in my previous kitchen. I really want to see more of that room behind the partially opened door, don't you? Is it a bedroom? We want more in case anyone is listening reading. Simply charming!

Audrey Hepburn and E.T.

Audrey Hepburn photographed by Richard Avedon - New York 1967

E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial came to Earth in 1982
Was he looking for his mother?
Am I the first person to notice the similarity between these two beloved movie stars? Was Steven Spielberg influenced by this Richard Avedon portrait? I know he's an art collector. Did he base this adorable Science Fiction character on this photograph? Audrey Hepburn (1929-1993) was still alive when the movie was released. I wonder if she saw it and remembered this photo shoot? I think she would have loved being called E.T.'s mother, don't you?

River Landscape in Cumbria, England

Such a peaceful winter scene in the Lake District of the English countryside. No wonder Beatrix Potter decided to settle in this region.

Help - Young Skater with Safety Cushion

This is the best photo I've seen in about a million years. "Dutch boy with a pillow strapped on his backside in order to soften the falling on ice while skating." The Netherlands, 1933 via Flickr

Lone Tree In The Snow

"This photo from Sycamore Gap is probably the most photographed tree in the UK . . . featured in the movie Robin Hood Prince of Thieves."

Absolutely breathtaking, isn't it?

I know many of you are buried in the snow right now. We are having heavy rain at the cottage today. It was beautiful yesterday; I washed a big load of Webster's blankets and hung them outside on the line. The house smelled like sunshine when I brought them inside late in the day. Webster was thrilled to have his favorite one on his dog bed. He loves clean things.

Stay warm and enjoy your Sunday.

The Beginning of A Long Love Affair

I just ran across this amazing composite photo that I've been saving on my computer for ages. I don't know where I found it . . . I just know I love it. This is definitely a two-way affair, isn't it? Can't you just feel the love?

Hanging My Wreath Today

I need to go out to the barn/garage today and find my pine cone wreath and my tree. As in past years, I've waited until it's freezing and my hands don't work. These three country images reminded me I'd better hurry up.
